Qype: Hilton Athens Hotel in Athens

Time to read: 2 minutes

Room was clean, although the floor seemed a bit dusty. We were disappointed to not have bathrobes in the room by default (and this is an expensive Hilton), and didn’t bother asking for them. An iron and ironing board are in the closet. Dry cleaning facilities are provided, but at €14 for a pair of trousers, it’s a bit much. A safe is provided. The mattress is incredibly comfortable (COCO-MAT, we checked).

There is NOTHING complimentary in the room, not even water. A small bottle of evian is left on the table and labeled at €6.50 (when a refrigerated 500ml bottle costs €0.50 -yes, half a euro- at the kiosks!!), and the mini fridge has special sensors, preventing you from refrigerating your own water.
Wifi is available for €18/ day. Utterly ridiculous, especially as this hotel has many an agreement with companies (including where I work) for business travellers.

We spent our first night in Athens at the Hilton, and on our return from Santorini purposefully chose to stay anywhere but there.

Service was great, but everything else was so ridiculously priced (a cocktail for €20? wifi for €18? A Club Sandwich for €30?) that we were constantly compelled to step outside for the smallest thing, ultimately making the hotel unwelcoming. All these prices are visible on their website, so we did know about them… chose
to try nonetheless, and I am not sure we’ll be going back.

Great for one overnight stay, if you don’t need internet, want an excellent breakfast and a quick dip in the lovely pool before moving on.
