Flat-hunting: an iterative process

Time to read: 3 minutes

The shortest blog post ever.

I have a canned reply for adverts of flats. And I realised today that I’ve edited it nearly every other day a little bit. I’ve also edited my original “I’m looking for a room” post. Here is the updated version. If you’re bored enough, you can compare it to the original version.

my advert, looking for a room

Hi my name is Sophia and I’m looking for a very spacious double room in West London, because I own a lot of clothes, shoes, books, and am fairly crafty. Most of my friends live out west, hence the interest. And I work on the South Bank (SE1 9), and the District, Jubilee and Bakerloo lines are my preferred transport links.

One of my hobbies is dressmaking. I own an antique sewing machine in its own cabinet and a dressmakers doll. Most of my sewing is done by hand, which keeps things frustratingly slow for me, but very quiet for you. But I really do need space in my room to keep things contained. Another hobby/profession is web design. That one fits on my little laptop.

I would prefer to live with girls, quite happy with guys, but I simply do not feel comfortable being a third person in a flat with a couple.

Ideally the flat would have a good kitchen with a good stove, oven, dishwasher and washer/drier. I like to cook proper meals and keep things clean, but I’m also lazy enough to want machines to do the hard work for me. If the double room has an en suite bathroom that’s a bonus.

Fast internet is a critical requirement, as I occasionally work from home and do so for a big tech company. If your internet is flaky, I have an excellent service with Be right now which I think they’d let me transfer over.

I like cooking for friends, watching tv series (have a raspberry pi mini computer as a media centre), good food and board games. Odds are you’d be invited to join in if you’re there. Oh, I currently have a gym in my building – and go regularly – so if there’s one in or near yours, let me know!

An even more recent iteration

(since scheduling this post more than a week ago)…

Hi, my name is Sophia and I’m looking for a very spacious double room in West London.

I own a lot of clothes, shoes, books, and am fairly crafty. Most of my friends live out west, hence the interest (especially in West Kensington). Work is on the South Bank (SE1 9PZ), so the District, Jubilee and Bakerloo lines are my preferred transport links.

One of my hobbies is dressmaking. I own an antique sewing machine in its own cabinet and a dressmakers doll. Most of my sewing is done by hand, which keeps things frustratingly slow for me, but very quiet for you. I really do need space in my room to keep things – like books – contained, and out of your way. Another hobby/profession is web design.

Fast, high bandwidth, internet is a critical requirement, as I occasionally work from home and do so for a big tech company.

I like cooking for friends, watching tv series (on a raspberry pi mini computer as a media centre – I don’t own a tv), good food and board games. My passions are technology, design, books and fashion.
